Well the bills are due, so the plan was to start last night; mega brassing weekend at the ship. Room all paid for, just finished checking in, good job I hadn't put on my crotchless wetsuit, old Elphick rolled on in tripping over his trousers which were torn at both ankles and covered in turds, blood and other pungent glandular based fluids. I tried to catch him as he fell to floor, I asked him what he was doing here of all places? Turns out it was the closest place to his flat that was open, he ran out of turps and meths! He kept to his feet and before collapsing again had remarkably managed to theif a bottle of famous grouse from behind bar. I asked him what was wrong. He then launched into a single malt diatribe about how his ship had sailed and that boat and brasses don't mix. As the concierge dragged him out he screamed "when orange fizzes it's Fanta! andy_kilometrepork - 28 Jan 2011 13:23 |
If you fancy a quiet pint, The Ship is ideal. There's never anyone in there - including staff. I assume they operate a self service honesty box system huntface - 5 Sep 2010 11:53 |
Used to have a beer in here before the place was done up - what a dive it was. Now it's a smart bar and ought to attract some good custom. However, the bar staff are inconsistant, that is if you can find them. Last time I went in there, there were a load of self important nobody reps who were staying at the hotel hogging the bar and prattling around on their laptops and gawping at their mobiles and/or yakking down them. Hardly the place for a relaxing drink as far as the locals are concerned. It's a hotel bar and should be avoided by avid pub goers at all costs. nios - 5 Aug 2009 19:56 |
Recently refurbished so don't expect anything even resembling a pub or you will be seriously disappointed. A rather souless restaurant awaits you. Beer quite pricey - Carling is 3.50. Food nothing to write home about and a limited menu. So, yes, I haven't got much positive to say about this place. How many were there? Four. Two left at eightish (maybe they felt it was too crowded!!)so my wife and I had the place to ourselves until ten. No kidding. Even a dead body would have felt a bit lonely. The only recommendation was the bar-maid (didn't get her name but she had black hair!). She was very, very helpful. Top marks to her but very low marks for anything else. No atmosphere although I was informed that it does get quite busy during the rest of the week. Could't get any quieter - that's for sure. kaktus - 25 Jul 2008 22:55 |
