Visited after Cheltenham races. We arrived about 6.30 and it was quiet with only about 25/30 people in. Two hours later with over 100 people in full of chavs and drunken women. Several bouncers on inside and out. It got a bit round so we left. Beers were well kept and not too expensive. Staff were helpful and attentive. More a lager pub than real ale but not the worst pub in the area. droggs - 19 Mar 2016 16:12 |
gave a good review of this pub in 2009 (cheltenham99). Now just fed up with it. Do not use of an evening but suspect that the pole in the corner says it all. Lunchtimes it is near empty; the reason being the prices. I am sure that there are pubs in Cheltenham that charge more for a pint of Strongbow but I have never come across them. Pub fares badly compared to The Bank nearby (Wetherspoons). But when The Bank charges 2.10 for a pint of Strongbow, and Yates's 3.80 there is no competition. No atmosphere, food poor, staff nowadays so-so. cheltenham99 - 15 Feb 2013 15:20 |
Used to do cheapest pint in cheltenham (1.35 for boddingtons I think) Tends to be fairly empty early evenings, week days, which I like. Or. Or the weekend chav and mutton night! Packed, aggressive and horrid. Staff are always nice. True. pintofcase - 20 Jun 2011 01:47 |
Popped in back in Feb,was rather disappointed as they had no yates's best ale, and the only other cask ale was the cloudy bombardier with bits floating in it. However the Newcastle Brown @ just 2.10 made up for it and the comfy leather sofa's were nice to relax in, 6/10 fat_beer_badger - 19 May 2010 17:48 |
For some reason I have really started to like this pub. I am local and go into town every week. In the 70s Yates were very basic (Liverpool had 10 Yates, floorboards, the posh one on Dale Street had lino. One beer tap and 20 rough wines - I kid you not. There were local poems to the lethal Australian white. But enough of my past...) Cheltenham: Cheap food (2 meals for 6.95 type deals). And very strangely: the staff (the food staff anyway) seem to be always very polite and considerate, consistently, must be a policy. This is lunchtime - cannot speak at all for the evening!! dtaylor - 23 Dec 2009 10:06 |
