We visited this pub over a year ago and the atmosphere was a welcoming one, we drank some of the finest ales that the country has to offer and enjoyed putting the world to rights with the locals. The Pub is a typical 16th Century watering hole that is kept immaculately clean. We enjoyed smoking "outside" in an undercover shelter which had a log burner that kept us pleasantly warm in mid January. The Landlord and Landlady were excellent hosts and looked after us all evening. Overall I rate this pub as excellent and will be definitely returning. Bravo! Ediethestaffy - 8 Sep 2012 20:21 |
The pub is empty and has no atmosphere and locals have deserted it in favour of another hostelry . One to be avoided. blt123 - 21 May 2011 03:44 |
Well Carols comments from 2004 still apply all except for the landlord; maybe he is new since then. First the hand pulled London Pride was just OK and that has nothing to do with my overall review; it was just OK, nothing special. We were made very welcome by the locals which was pretty good as we almost outnumbered them. Then about 75 minutes into a big match on the telly the landlord walks in and changes the channel to a rugby match. That is just plain rude when about 15 people have been watching the match avidly including many locals. (We are not) To be asked if we minded missing a trivial match like Liverpool versue Man Utd for a local game of rugby would have been nice, but not a word. Most of the locals who were watching it with us stormed out. Made me think the manager was just looking after his well healed rugby mates and they dont want any truck with that plebs game of soccer. One ignorant lump commented when he arrived whats this s*** doing on. I drink in a lot of pubs, watched a lot of big games in them but have never been treated like that. Not sure Ill be rushing back and as the pub is in a very quite village the manager maybe needs to think about that. Ruined an otherwise nice experience and Im sorry for Fred, one of the locals, if you get treated like that by people you live with! Gurkha - 7 Mar 2011 12:59 |

Ok so this is the one and only pub in the pretty, friendly village of piddington but is well worth a visit by anyone (I'm not bias honest!). See it as a locals pub that openly welcomes new commers, filled with tradition pub games (skittles, bridge, pool and darts for instance) and excellent ale at an excellent price. Nice garden, family room and a free, yes free, duke box! what more could you want. Caroline Willmer - [email protected] - 1 Sep 2004 16:41 |
