Excellent pub. I was staying at the rather upmarket Leeming House Hotel further down the road but felt the need to escape to the simpler joys of a proper lakeland pub. Enjoyed a few excellent pints of Black Sheep and had a great plate of fish and chips while watching the World Cup with the locals. The service was friendly and obliging. Next time I'm up here I may even book a room. Stallywag - 7 Jul 2014 18:42 |
Spent four evenings in this pub this month. The real ales on offer were different each day - some from Tirril's, Dent, Hawkshead as well as the more omnipresent Black Sheep. Also Westons cider on tap. All tasted fine to me after extensive testing. Food in the evening is upmarket of usual pub and is priced to match, but similar to many local places and I have no complaints. mafiosi - 1 Sep 2009 20:10 |
oh dear, oh dear, oh dear a pub in a lovely location, overlooking Ullswater and the surrounding hills, but spoiled by crap service and overpriced food. Unfortunately, this typified a lot of the pubs in the Lakes that we visited during our week in April - great place, shame about the food and prices. Since when did it became ok for pubs to charge over 10 for sausage and mash or fish n chips?! But that seems to be the norm in many Lakes pubs this particular pub was one of the worst - a relatively quiet weekday lunchtime order for 8 people turned into a farce - with the adult meals turning up 15mins before the kids (despite a request to the contrary), very average sarnies for over 6 a shot and an inability to find anyone to serve us resulting in us leaving early, having got bored of trying to find someone to order coffee or food from perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but the service had an air of Fawlty Towers about it, which was probably normal. Maybe ok for a quick drink on a drive down Ullswater, but unless you enjoy paying top whack for average food, give it a miss! alexr2010 - 21 Aug 2009 22:47 |
