Had a meal in here, and the obligitory sampling of pints, on our last night in Cornwall. Must say that if the weather had been nice, the view out the back, on the patio, would have been lovely. But with the herds of screaming kids running in and out of the fire door, letting the force nine gale in, it put us off the idea of sitting outside. All the guys behind the bar looked like 'surfer dudes', and must have acquired their tans from somewhere other than Cornwall, judging by the previously mentioned weather. The food we ordered was o.k., but nothing to right home about, and as is the norm with big food orders in some pubs, came to us in a range of staggered servings, and forgotten side orders!, but after having a few of the Betty Stoggs though, I was not really in the mood for complaining, and more in the mood for hugging the nearest person too me, as is the effect from drinking copious amounts of ale! Overall, nice location, could improve on service. I'm giving a generous 6 to this pub. hampshirehog - 25 Aug 2009 23:18 |
Hi,on holiday with my husband and three children and noticed this pub with signs outside stating "GOOD PUB GRUB" so decided to give it a try.... wished we hadn't! Drinks and food were overpriced.Food was of very poor quality and very over priced .We ordered 5 chicken burger meals, cost was 6.95 each ,this didnt seem a bad price until the meal arrived! On arrival the food was on a large plate -good so far! The food on it looked unappealing ,basically a burger bun with a chicken burger and lettuce inside and a portion of chips no garnish or veg included. Then came the eating!!!! Firstly the burger bun was of cheap quality, the type you get at asda in there value range. The chicken burgers were waffer thin, again cheap quality with no flavour, type got from iceland 5 for a 1. The lettuce was obviously out of date and most was tired and some slimy....uneatable! The chips were again value range frozen chips no flavour and dry! I dont believe there is anything wrong with value range food if your paying low prices to reflect the quality of the food but when you pay a reasonable amount of money for a meal you expect a reasonable quality of food that is presented well and of a good standard. We also felt the drinks were overpriced compared to other pubs visited during our holiday! We didnt use this pub for food or drink again and believe others should be aware of the overpricing and poor quality of food and avoid this pub as there are many more in and around St Merryn and Padstow where food and drink are reasonably priced and of excellent quality. jacqui.m41 - 27 Jul 2008 20:59 |
