| After a visit to the improved Flat Iron down the road, we stopped off in the Arkles for a final liquid refreshment before heading over Stanley Park on a late November visit to Liverpool. Greene King IPA & Morland Old Speckled Hen were the two real ales on, as this is a Greene King pub. Very lively on Anfield matchdays, as you'd expect. But it's large enough to fit a fair few in. | Large corner pub thats popular on both Everton and Liverpool match days. Its also very much a busy locals pub on none match days and I remember it fondly from my student days living in Anfield. Theresa is still behind the bar 17 years later and the place hasn't changed much, apart from the addition of big screens for live football. Not my ideal kind of pub these days, but still a handy stop when going to the football. Two real ales were on during my Sunday lunchtime visit. | Always use this pub for Everton and Liverpool away games. Must admit the service has improved recently with a lot more staff on. Friendly staff, especially the manager and also, for once, polite door staff. Good choice of lager and several tvs. Bar staff recommended that my partner buy a bottle of wine instead of buying by the glass and even kept it on ice for her until after the match which was a nice touch. jonTHFC - 21 Jan 2010 16:55 |

| this pub is often an away fans pub for liverpool and everton games. despite being so close to anfield, and also quite close to goodison. on match days it fills up fast, and gets really packed, you can end up waiting 30 mins to get served, but the open floor space can mean a good atmosphere. otherwise its an average pub, in a real sh*t hole of an area. i wouldnt advise any one to there on non match days, simply becuase of how awfull anfield is, and liverpool in general.
