Called in today with group of cyclists - just as it started to rain so good timing. Radiators on so able to dry out. 8 of us ate from lunctime menu and food was good and hot, and also good price. Not many others in, so we probably tripled the expected takings but the service was fast enough. Nice find, my first visit in spite of living not that far away for last 16 years! Excellent beer, good food and a friendly welcome. Leicester CAMRA Branch Country Pub of the Year for the last 3 years Doesn't come much better than this! Steve49 - 13 Aug 2011 16:12 |
Enroute to Leicester from Kettering, the slightly longer way, The Chandlers Arms is well worth the visit. Our two hour comfort break gave us a chance to try all the beers on offer. Each one was spot on particularly the regular Bath Ale 'Barnstormer and Fat Cat 'Cougar'. With a friendly and accomodating landlord and landlady a return visit is certain and we'll give the food a try. rob372 - 7 Nov 2010 20:49 |
To update my previous review and rating, following a few more visits I would stick my neck out and say this pub probably serves the best quality real ale in Leicestershire. Every pint I've had has been excellent, even from breweries that are not my favourite. I believe the quality is down to quick beer turnover (the landlord believes in going for quality not quantity) and the excellent cellar management. The Chandlers has won awards from Camra and rightly so. Shame more pubs can't keep beer so well and deliver such high quality. Steve45 - 1 Jan 2010 15:40 |
Fantastic country pub serving top notch real ales and food. Beer quality just about the best you can get. House beers Rev James and Dowbridge Acris along with 3 or 4 guests. Sister_430 - 25 Oct 2009 15:21 |
