Nah - not demolished. They've only done the bus station and Unisys so far. It's still there vacant - with 'for sale boards' on it now. Are you thinking of the same pub ? This is the one that started out as the Phrenologist and Firkin then went through various name changes (Assembly/CODE etc) Probably will get demolished egventually - the local authority seem to hate anything more than 30 years old (what happened to William Herschel's cottage???!) Demolished-Part of town center redevelopment-Bizzare shped bus station replacing the cube shaped concrete bus staion and m s car park. Time will tell. The heart of Slough was torn out by developers in the late 1960/70 when numerous homes/victorian buildings/pubs were demolished to make way for a dual carigeway and the 1st precinct (Queensmere) to make Slough the most "modern" town in europe to quote the developers, In the 1970s-2000 Slough became a ghost town in the evenings-vertualy no residents so many pubs that tried to stay open-failed.This one-seemilgly gay friendly was no different.(which was a failed furnature buisness previously) Recent development in the area has seen many appartments etc being built so hopefully when the new Heart of Slough is complete-it will have a good mix of homes, jobs and buisnesses and the remaining pubs-and perhaps a few new ones-will flourish. Incidentaly just 70 yards from the site of this club-was untill 1970/71 a sixteenth century caoching inn called the Crown. Torn down amisdt local protest-to make-a Green shield stamp outlet and a Golden egg (whimpey type) cafe-whoopy! Look at history and just maybe-sympathetic development, could have made being and living in Slough a pleasant exspieriance. To the future-Cheers! ruggy - 13 Apr 2011 18:17 |
Guess what. Still shut - looks like it'll never reopen as a pub. Frontage is now filling up with litter and vomit. What an awful place Slough is - bulldoze the whole bloody place and start again (just keep the nice old church by the Red Cow) Upton_Parker - 9 Oct 2010 18:37 |
Still shut. Still empty. What a waste... Upton_Parker - 17 Oct 2009 17:37 |
