Reopened apparently as a community-owned pub in 2020 after a seven-year closure. We were the only people there last Saturday late afternoon so it was a bit strange to hear 70s soul blaring out through the open doors in this quiet village. Looked quite modern inside. Must confess I can't remember what I drank other than it was a little too cold and slightly above average. paul_d102 - 6 May 2021 19:51 |
Visited this place a few years back. Thought it was ok but nothing special. Is this right that the pub is now closed? 5/10 montie49 - 5 Oct 2011 19:04 |

I went into this pub for a Sunday roast on Sunday 11th with some family members. The roast was fantastic. The local ales were well looked after and i found the staff very pleasent. The landlord was really friendly and helpful and nothing seemed to much trouble. will definately return if i am ever back in the area Phileasphil - 25 Jan 2009 16:04 |
I visited this pub one wet afternoon and it seems quite an enigmatic place. There are two restaurant areas which are very olde fashioned. The restaurant has Egon Ronay accreditations from the early 1990's, but didn't get to eat. There is a very traditional country pub bar and a side room with a pool table. I had a couple of pints of Branoc, which is brewed locally at Branscombe - both very nice. Enjoyed some banter with the very friendly landlord and the locals. This pub is at the heart of walking and riding country and is an ideal stop off. My dog was particularly welcome. I would bet that this is a great place to stay for a few days and enjoy Devon, as it is set in beautiful countryside. One odd thing was that someone had started painting in between the timber beams on the ceiling and hadn't finished. It would also seem that whoever did it had enjoyed too many pints of ale and probably started after a good session. The beams were smeared in white paint, which was a bit unsughtly - so yes it needs a bit of tlc. However, great beer, great landlord, great welcome and well worth a visit. flagship - 1 Jun 2008 10:49 |
