Back to try again. Steaks were absolutely perfect. Beer was top-notch. Worth the trip. The_Heavy_Fandango - 30 Jul 2012 12:38 |
We have just stayed in Tintern and had 4 meals at The Rose and Crown. We found the food excellent, especially the steaks. The Landlord/Chef very friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend it. Brandysnap - 22 May 2011 14:00 |
Went to visit a pal in Chepstow, and he took myself and spousal unit to lunch. Initial thought was the Moon and Sixpence, but previous visits made us reconsider. We decided to give this place a go, and weren't disappointed. Nice lass serving behind the bar and taking orders for food, as well as waiting at tables. (I'm sure I detected an aroma of Brut 33) The steaks are absolutely brilliant, although they're served on a quite small "sizzler" plate, so if you want a rare steak, you'd be better off asking for a separate plate so that it doesn't become overdone at the table whilst you eat your tiny portion of chips. Apart from that, the beers were the ubiquitous Butcombe bitter and GK Abbot. All in all, a good pub, but I would suggest the cleaning staff be encouraged in the use of a vacuum cleaner on the upholstery, as it was difficult to find a seat which wasn't in need of a good clean. Apart from that one oversight, a brilliant boozer with excellent food and splendid staff. Bigger "Sizzler" plates would help though! The_Final_Arbiter - 2 Jan 2011 23:44 |
I have been staying in Tintern for 6 weeks and as I am in a Hotel, visit all the village pubs on a regular basis. So far The Rose and Crown has most impressed me. The landlord and chef Dave serves up great food and real sizzling steaks, you can hear them arriving. Two good real ales and plenty of cold fizzy choice also. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. saxonking - 6 May 2009 17:14 |
Looks like it's closed down when I passed by in the dark on a Friday evening, can anyone else confirm this? MisterX - 31 Jan 2009 04:34 |
