I had read about this Inn and about it's food on quite a few websites as it is very popular. We arrived about 20:40 so we were just in time as they stop stop serving at nine. We were made very welcome and certainly made to feel at home. We got some drinks and settled down with the menu while enjoying a great pint. After studying the menu for some time i opted for the Mixed grill. It Has to be one of if not the best mixed grill i have had. there was plenty off it with Sirloin Steak, Gammon, Lamb Cutlet, Pork Steak, Black pudding, Sausage, Eggs and some lovely home made chips. It was really delicious, my friend had lamb shank with mash and fresh veg. I would certainly like to visit again, if you get there before 19:00 you can get 2 meals for the price of one. lovely looking pub very inviting went for lunch today, friendly staff was seated quickly drinks order taken whilst we looked at menu ordered starter and sunday lunch starter took over 20 mins to arrive even though place was not particularly busy ...was very nice with no complaints ..after plates where removed took over 40 mins for the the mains to arrive, looked delicious but everything was cold ..waitress offered to replace this was done within ten mins ....started to eat and found roast pots where still chilled as if out of a fridge!! beef was so tough and over cooked could not cut it with a knife and unable to chew and swallow it ... told the landlady who was very apologetic and plates where removed ,by then our appetites for the food and the place had some what abated.. the owner did not charge us for any food we paid for our drinks i did ask why everything was so poor and she did not have any answers just apologies maybe it was an off day but not inspired to return pint i had was nice though jamster65 - 28 Feb 2010 19:38 |
Mike & Debbie and all the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is superb and the real ale is kept well. Mike currently has a 'Credit Crunch' lunch on offer. The curries with 'arf & arf' are enormous. They are always busy so it's best to phone ahead and make a reservation. The pub makes a great place to start a walk from. Enjoy.
