I cant quite make up my mind about this pub. Its split across several different floors and has a suitably shabby feel to it, with scratched and marked wooden flooring and vinyl seating held together with tape. The dark red walls create a slightly gloomy atmosphere and given the impression of something from the Victorian era perhaps, but somehow it doesnt quite all fit together. They have open mic nights on occasions and the last one of these I went to a few months ago was actually very good. Although there were three hand pumps on the bar, unfortunately none of these were in use. I asked if there was any beer on, and the barman said not, without offering any explanation as to why. Somewhat surprisingly then, there was actually a good choice of ciders Thatchers Gold, Thatchers Draft and Cheddar Valley, the latter two being served directly form barrels behind the bar. The Gold was a very reasonable 2 per pint. Blackthorn - 26 Aug 2010 10:07 |
popped in last night , and they had Butcombe on , wouldn't stay there all night , but you could pop in on a crawl for one or two , customers quite fiendly , seemed to be a bit more intelligent youngsters /weekenders , than you normally get in a pub near the centre . bar man polite ,and friendly . beatles38 - 29 Aug 2009 08:57 |
Popped in last night. there was no ale on which was a pity. But I would rather they kept good ale on at the weekend rather than tired ale on all week. Had a Leffe at a good price of 3.10 LukeD - 15 Jul 2009 07:37 |
Friendly staff, plenty of seating room(including a bed!!!?), particularly excellent Butcombe and Staropramen. They also like to play full albums in here too in lieu of jukebox selections - which might put some off. I was treated to 'Exile on Main Street' last week getsit - 27 Mar 2008 23:32 |
