Bustling pub Saturday (market day) lunchtime. Only just managed to squeeze in. Well worth it. Service (drinks and food), prices (food) and atmosphere all terrific. aaahpub - 17 Jun 2012 12:38 |
I wasn't overly impressed really. Seems a bit mucky in there, I imagine it's the kind of place where you wouldn't have been able to see because of all the smoke. Landlord was polite enough though. jarofporter - 29 Apr 2009 17:27 |
me and the wife often call here for lunch when visiting chesterfield. the pub is on a side street just off the lower part of the outdoor market. I like this place. your first impression is of an un-assuming little pub that quietly goes about its trade. there are two entrances from the street, the lower one to the bar and the other to the lounge. *** inside there is a central bar serving both rooms. we usually go in the lounge to eat, which also has a small dining room leading off it. the lounge is usually quite busy on a saturday, with mostly elderly folk, chatting away to each other. the place has an "old fashioned" feel to it, like pubs would have been when my grandad was around. *** there is a fair choice of meals available, all at about 2.99. these are all quite reasonable, and service is quick even when busy. theres a couple of cask beers on. it used to be a kimberleys pub, then hardy hanson with olde trippe [which was gorgeous], but now its greene king's IPA. *** verdict: its nothing spectacular, but this is strangely one of my two favourite pubs in the town [my other is the royal oak, in the shambles]. its a nice little pub in which to get good pint, a good meal, and glimpse of local life in chesterfield! reynard - 20 Aug 2008 13:49 |
