| The original saloon and public bar survived its whole life (now called the front bar and back bar). It was a place for ordinary unpretentious decent Deptford people. I won�t claim to have known it that well, and I�ve never known real ale there, but it had a barman as professional as one could want, attentive courteous, welcoming, pulling full pints, keeping good order�I could go on. Anyway the front bar had been closed for sometime, but now the pub has finally sucomed. Its not clear what its future will be � some say it and the whole block it stands in will be demolished, others that the business is going to be taken on but I doubt that somehow.
