| Greene King pub at a set of traffic lights. Only IPA & Abbot were available. The interior was light and airy and the football was being shown on a TV. Service was fairly incompetent though. The barmaid seemed to be getting stressed and didn't have a clue what she was doing. Requests to top up drinks were accepted, but just met with more froth. The Punk IPA seemed to be causing particular problems. They do offer a CAMRA discount though. We didn't stay long, preferring instead to head to a main destination - the nearby Watling Street Brewery Tap, our favourite pub of the day, but not listed on here. blue_scrumpy - 10 Feb 2019 11:28 |
| Very large pub built in the 1930's I'd guess. Lots of TVs showing football, pool table, mainly locals. Had one of the most disgusting pints of London Pride I've ever sampled - couldn't drink it. My mate's Carlsberg was dead. Won't be coming back here - ever. Number11 - 24 May 2015 00:23 |
| Now a John Barras pub - same as the Southern Cross. Big boozer, large bar area at the front, then you walk round the right-hand side and there's a massive room at the back which seems mainly geared up for eating. Busy when we visited on a Thursday evening and despite quite a few staff, service was a bit slow. No grumbling about the bar prices, though, with a small red wine (£2.89) and a pint of Black Sheep (£2.94) both under three pounds. That was the only ale on but certainly tasted good enough for me to go back for a couple more pints. Food is pretty standard pub grub, and you can get a couple of mains for around a tenner. Burgers weren't fantastic but the pie and chips was decent. Plenty of TVs around the bar area when we were there showing Sky Sports News and ESPN silently, although sure they get turned up when there's live football on. | Seems this pub is turning into a Poker Pub with 2 tournaments weekly now and the tournaments take place in the restaurant meaning in excess of 6 tables are taken out of service for people wanting a bite to eat in nfavour of a few people that could play basically anywhere else (particularly the "games area"). The food is generally good but when you have someone standing over you while you are eating, hurrying you up so they can set up the Poker game, i have to say it's slightly off putting. | A couple of enjoyable visits here lately, especially a friday night when there was an abundance of eye candy. Good atmosphere, good food and more ales, don't know if they change them regularly but there were three selections. Best pub in the locality. Grogmonster - 27 Sep 2011 10:29 |
