Sadly another leaving lunch since my last set of comments. Food quality still good but hard to find a basic hot snack without it being fanciful and expensive. Good selection of beer and quality good; on at the time were Adnams - Lighthouse and 2 others Beer_Spotter - 30 Apr 2012 12:56 |
Went for colleagues leaving lunch and very impressed by the quality of the food. It is pricy but you definataly get good quality. I recommend the House platter. It's a meal in itself!!! Had a good pint of Adnams - Bitter too. Beer_Spotter - 21 Mar 2012 00:08 |
I have visited this pub many times and have always had a great experience. Lovely pub, warm and inviting, spacious and light. Menu has lots of choice, some meals are quite pricey, but the quality is definately there. Have always had excellent meals. Lots of choice for beer and cider on tap, they have the delicious Aspall cider,my favourite. Friendly staff. A little gem I think, tucked away by the river in Bourne End =) nlithgow - 16 Jul 2011 21:36 |
Went today, following the Cask Mark listing guide. The pub had loads of diners and plenty of trade. But frankly I thought that it was rather poor. The man behind the bar was one of the most miserable people I have ever met. Why do these people work in bars? Why don't they find a job they like. The very reasonable beer was consistently served as very short measures. The bar staff said that was what they are trained to serve! Topped up to only a fairly short measure very grudgingly. What on earth does cask mark mean? Food was tiny portions, top prices and pretty poor. One to avoid I think. BeerEnthusiast - 24 Feb 2010 17:12 |
I have been to this pub a few times before for a drink and the food looked good so we decided to take friends along last sunday for lunch, we will not be going back....... Despite not being particularly busy the service was AWFUL! It began well, our starters came within 10 minutes of ordering but it then took nearly 90 minutes for our main courses to arrive (we all had sunday roasts). There were loads of members of staff milling around but they all lacked any hint of urgency (one of the bar staff was more interested in clearing the dishwasher and arranging glasses than actually serving customers!) It was most frustrating as when our food did arrive it was very nice, unfortunately it did not make up for the inexcusable wait! Foreman - 5 Oct 2009 13:05 |
