Back to being more like a pub now. Free wi-fi means at lunchtime it seems to be full of people on their laptops. Has Youngs 'ordinary' bitter. Roodeye - 12 Sep 2008 12:58 |
"The Shack" closes this month, according to their website. The building didn't fit with their aspirations, which sounds very much like they weren't getting enough punters in. Perhaps they should've just kept it running as a proper pub? It was quite popular when it was, apparently. tuppence - 18 Jul 2008 18:54 |
As soon as I had walked into the Crown and anchor I thought oh dear, this is no pub with the words crown or anchor in the name that I have ever encountered before. It was only when I used this site to investigate further that I discovered that it is actually called Shackology, so everything is now clear. I waited for a couple of minutes to be served as it was very busy with me being the only customer and 5 staff milling about the bar obviously isnt enough. When I was served it was only because one member of staff had delegated the serving of my half a Red Stripe to another. The pumps on the bar were Kirin Ichiban, Erdinger, Red Stripe and Bombadier. If I was the type to go out for a cup of coffee and read the morning papers, which I'm not, this is the type of place I would like, but it was nearly empty and Zizzi is just up the road and it was pretty busy. This may seem like an overly critical review, especially as it is the first, but it honest and based on a 12:30 pm visit. Strongers - 24 Apr 2008 15:09 |
