Having read about this place in the MA, I had a look at the website. What a pity they didn't see fit to employ a proofreader. The_Final_Arbiter - 3 Feb 2011 14:17 |
We have visited the Railway in Euxton on a few occasions and in the past we have been really happy with the service, the choice and the quality of the food - our experience on Sunday 19th July 09, was not so good and rather a let down to the extent that we were wondering if the pub had changed in ownership or management from the last time we were over. It seemed to take quite a while for our food to arrive and the place wasn't really busy. We had to ask as to the whereabouts of our order as we honestly thought we had been forgotten about (especially as a few of the staff were hanging around chatting near the till area - when perhaps they should have been checking on the progress of the food for customers). My husbands choice, the marsh roast lamb was fine - no complaints, however I ordered the Railway 8oz grilled prime steak burger and I was asked how I wanted it cooked. I requested that it was 'well done' as I prefer meat to be cooked that way. Anyway - when it finally arrived it was still quite pink inside. For the length of time it had taken for us to receive our order I would have thought that the burger would have been well done as requested. Perhaps we were given someone elses as there seemed to be a few customers ordering burgers? When a member of staff asked if our food was OK we did mention about the meat being pink and she offered to take it back, though we declined because we had waited so long for our food and we were really hungry. My husband ate most of the burger and I had some of his lamb instead. When we came to pay for the food the waitress said that we can put a tip on the debit card if we wanted to. We thought that she had rather a cheek really since she was the same waitress who was aware of our complaint and generally customers would only consider tipping for good service & food. I have emailed the Railway @ Euxton with this feedback but to date I haven't received any response. Jan66 - 24 Jul 2009 13:45 |
I was a little worried about this place since the only review on here wasn't great. But my brother, who has Coeliac, was visiting from the US and we wanted to show him and his wife a good sunday roast in a pub. It was the only pub advertised (on the net) as having gluten free options within an hours drive from us. Turned out to be a good choice, everyone was very pleased with the food. The sirloin (which was used for the beef roast) did not seem any more fatty than normal - I've always known sirloin to be a somewhat fatty cut anyway. My husband and brother said the pork and lamb were very good too. The yorkshire pudding was perfect (not too hard on top - nothing worse than trying to saw through your yorkshire pudding) and the gravy was very good (good enough that I could have done with some more!). My only complaint is the service was a little slow. Some people actually like it that way because they otherwise feel rushed but we were really, really hungry so the long wait for our food wasn't ideal. But the food made up for it and the staff were very friendly and very gluten-free aware. ukamerican - 18 Jan 2009 17:57 |
Was really excited about our visit to the railway, but have to say was left slightly disappointed, I ordered the gourmet burger which I asked to be medium to well done, however when cut in half it was still very pink and not that hot, the sirloin my partner had was full of gristle, plus the homemade chips are that thick they where still quite hard in the middle. We had a lovely quiet table till a large party arrived trying to push past while we where trying to eat, so much for manners, on the plus side the staff where friendly and very attentive. But felt food was expensive for what we got propowertoolrepairs - 17 Nov 2008 20:51 |
