user reviews of Parkers, Hull

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After trying the Star of the West (in the old town and not listed in here), my final port of call before yesterday's football match was the Boot Room, the current name for this establishment. It's a typical boozer near an English football ground. Probably empty during the rest of the week, it's all about volume on a matchday. No cask ales - keg beverages were Carling, Fosters, Guinness, Strongbow, Strongbow Dark Fruit, John Smiths Extra Smooth & Worthingtons Creamflow. Served its purpose for one swift half before kick off.

Went to this pub on a visit to Hull Fair, it is on the corner of Waltern st at the entrance to the fair site.
It has had a refurb and makeover since my last visit, but the beers are very limited and no real ales. Lounge seemed quite comfortable, but the karioke was terrible! Just a run of the mill pub with no real character and a bit rough, a shame a lot of good pubs have gone this way. Used to be a 3 story building I beleave but had a near miss by a bomb in the ww1 and was unsafe so they just took the top floor off!

PROMINENTLY LOCATED ON THE CORNER OF WALTON STREET, next to the new KC stadium. This has been an important drinking house for many years - it was called the Newington (aft6er the area its in) until the 70s but alwasys jknown colloquially as Parkers after an old manager from many years back.
Originally a Moors & Robsons house, then a Bass house, it was run by legendary Hull pub host Percy Johnson at that time too.
In recent years its had a reputation as a hard drinking 2 bar operation, with the usual karaoke and frequent fighting. Now closed for renovation and due to open after easter 2007. Owned by Enterprise Inns, it as a few car parking places at the back.
