This pub could be a real gem but it appears to have lost it's way a little. Very cold with no fire on no food and generally messy. It has everything a pub could need. A cosy fire area a games area a dining area with a view a great garden. It just wasn't making the most of any of these things. 5/10 montie49 - 28 Mar 2020 11:57 |
What a wonderful out of the way village Hennock is and the village pub is probably the jewel in its crown. We appeared to be the first visitors of the evening. But the young barman offered a friendly welcome. Just the 2 real ales were on - Dartmoor Dragon's Breath & Teignworthy Lifesaver. They also had Hunt's Hazy Dazy as the real cider. Apparently there are lovely views from the rear. But it was too dark to enjoy these. Still a really atmospheric pub though. blue_scrumpy - 17 Mar 2020 21:09 |
What a great find! The Palk Arms in Hannock has been on my list of pubs to visit in Dartmoor for a long time and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, we were treated kindly by friendly locals and staff alike. The small front bar is very cosy, and the restaurant/bar areas to the back have the most amazing views of Dartmoor. There's also a lovely garden but I didn't see any pool table. The place is full of quirkiness and interesting memorabilia from the local mine, which I believe closed in the 50s. I had the Jail Ale which is a strong, tasty pint. We liked the place so much, we returned the following day with Mother! BiffoBeer - 28 Jun 2016 17:06 |
