Good pub on three levels, basement can get a bit claustrophobic but the beer is good and there is an outside area to sit in. Far enough from KX itself not to get too inundated. rainlight - 9 Jul 2016 20:30 |
Having booked an area of the pub for a monthly meeting with 30+ friends on Saturday 11/1/14, we were less than impressed with the cleanliness of the place. Nobody was impressed with the food, the service was unfriendly and drinks West End prices for cheap plonk. We were all underwelmed with our venue, but on leaving 3 of us were the last to leave premises. One of our party discovered he had left his wallet, and the doorstaff refused to allow him to re-enter the pub to look for it. A member of the barstaff went to get the wallet, and returned, after a 5 minute delay, with the wallet in tact and £160 missing. Only members of staff had access to the wallet, when he complained about the missing £160 he was thrown out by the door staff. The management have no problem with this theft by their staff. If you go to this be very careful. seniorphil - 13 Jan 2014 13:28 |
Some plus points - it's spacious and they were playing Bristol band F**k Buttons on the soundsystem on my arrival. Plus, a Lamb burger infused with chorizo was hearty and tasty. Then Queen made an apeparance with that godawful bicycle song and I remembered the other negatives - no ale and no signs on the taps to indicate what beers were on offer (mercifully, guinness does make an appearance). Change being returned on a little metal tray broke a third of the golden rules of pubs. Well worth including on a York Way pub crawl for all this. BoehmBawerk - 21 Sep 2012 14:31 |
Great pub! Love the new refurbishment... The selection of wines and beer is great, staff are friendly, and there have been some really good events. Will definitely be back! flyingdog - 12 Jul 2011 17:42 |
This is no longer the Cross Kings, it is the Star Of Kings owned by the same people that run the Star of Bethnal Green. It's had a refirb but not in a poncey way, just nicer plus they've kept the gig room downstairs and added a shit hot sound system on both floors meaning it can be a raucous live/club night downstairs while still being a proper put upstairs. ALSO, got a new chef and menu and, only eaten there once, but the food was amazing. My mum loved it. ginnjuice - 12 Jul 2011 15:02 |
