user reviews of Al Pesador, Venice
please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A fantastic location on a small campo on the edge of the Grand Canal, formerly a marketplace. Despite being right next to the Rialto bridge and bang in the middle of on of the most touristy and congested areas of Venice this small bar is a great place to stop for a decent beer in a city and indeed a country not known for it (if that's what you are after, and if you are on this website I assume it is). Friendly and enthusiastic bar staff serve up a local lager and a very tasty Italian "red" beer, Forst St Sixtus (6.5% ABV, a deep, dark red colour, try it). Most people will be drinking variants on the local prosecco based "spritz", but don't let that put you off your beerintheevening. Bar service only, a welcome relief from the whole sit down rigmarole that may be very civilsed but just gets in the way when you are stopping for a quick drink. Not touristy (by Venice standards) - despite its location is is tucked away off the main drag, doesn't have a load of tables outside, and keeps its head down. Maybe that is why Al Pesador is enjoyed by local 20 somethings out for a pre-dinner drink. So the japanese tourists with their tiny camcorders and the yanks with their "fanny packs" are thankfully absent. Bag a perch on one of the two benches on the canal side and enjoy a prime view of the world's most beautiful high street and feel happy. Food is served, various cheap tapas style dishes dished up on demand. However the emphasis is very much on alcohol - a welcome relief. Closed on Mondays. anonymous - 7 Aug 2006 22:04 |
