Place could and should have been a lot better. The owner looks like he has given up on the place. No kitchen open pub cold and place felt lacklustre. Not what we expected! 3/10 montie49 - 21 Jan 2018 12:27 |
At last! freed from the yoke of an indifferent landlord the pub is now under new FREE HOUSE ownership. The new landlord Sam is a local lad keen for success. A refit of the interior has retained all the character of the ancient building blended with classy new furniture, even relaxing easy chairs. 3 handpumps of excellent ales and a new chef offers superb and enticing options with a twist for dining. This pub has got better and better. The current tenant serves real ale in superb condition and good food on offer too. now that winter is here a Christmas menu will be available. This is my local or rather one of them! OgrisDad - 23 Nov 2013 13:42 |
This is my local and I am a real ale enthusiast and CAMRA member. The reviews are all sound except the commet on variable ale condition. Last year the existing landlord finally got over his condition problems and installed cooler jackets to the in- bar stillage. The Bass is by handpump from the cellar and both this and the Otter are jolly good stuff now; thats why I drink there four days a week; now retired don't you know. Been to this pub many times over the years, its always been consistently good. The owners have been there for years now. Normally at least two real ales on, a local brew and Bass served straight from the barrel. Never had a bad pint. Food is excellent. Pub is approximately 9 miles outside Exeter. Note that the road leading to it is narrow 1 car wide in most places. Pub worthy of a 10 in my book as its the sort of pub I like, just gets a 9 due to road situation which is really outside their control!! typeo - 9 Jul 2008 20:39 |
