Decent beer, the pies were good, one of the better Buckingham pubs. hollybush33 - 30 Mar 2019 19:35 |
In principle, the King's Head could be a great pub. As one reviewer has already said, it has a great location in the centre of Buckingham. It has real ale. There's a very friendly and helpful young guy serving with a beard behind the bar - a great barman. I've only eaten there once, and the food was o.k., if not outstanding. However, one of the obstacles preventing this from being a great pub isn't just some of the rather undesirable clientele, but the senior landlady. She is, without doubt, one of the most ill-mannered, ignorant, individuals I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Perhaps one of the reasons for the continued success of the place is that she appears so rarely in the evenings. She has an appearance to match her personality. Her daughter and co-owner doesn't have much of a personality, but at least she has better manners than her mother. PML2 - 27 Jan 2014 23:32 |
Having decamped from the nearby Whale amid a rendition of Elvis's 'Suspicious Minds' from its denizens, we were surprised to find a lone male caterwauling 'Return to Sender' in this establishment, eulogised by various posters on BITE for it's cheap deals (2.95 for a full English does indeed sound a real bargain). There 'The King' theme ends thankfully, especially as next up on the juke box was 'U Can't Touch This' by MC Hammer. Blaring out into the garden it was and sadly this is another case of an excellent location wasted - the pub is smack bang on the the High Street of a handsome county town near to the atmospheric old gaol. Listless indeed. BoehmBawerk - 13 Aug 2012 10:52 |
Went on a Friday evening with a band on (great band, as it happens). Beer was good, we both drank IPA and one other ale so not a vast selection, but tasted well kept. The music attracted a young crowd some of whom looked like they were enjoying themselves, we could have stayed longer, would go back. The seats looked comfy. Pool table was getting use. Pub had a friendly crowd and good fast service behind the bar. Pubweasels - 30 Sep 2011 22:16 |
Excellent pint of IPA, Bacardi and Coke for my wife, a plate of ham, eggs and chips for her, tuna baguette and salad for me -- and change out of ten pounds. What's going on in one of the most expensive counties in the UK? Comfortable seating ranging from bar stools to settees. Friendly service. Pool and darts available and, it appears, plenty of live music. A pub that puts others in the area to shame for value and hospitality. On a Sunday lunchtime in February there were not many customers -- for the sake of those running the place we hope they have the success they deserve during spring and summer.
