user reviews of the Countryman, Gillingham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

First time in this pub, it was warm an inviting. The bar lady was freindly as were the two locals (came up to speak to our dog). London Pride in bottles which was good, sadly only Toby on draught from an ale point of view but a minor point. Good humour from staff and locals alike.

We thought this was a very nice pub, and would come back again.

Although I don't live loacally to this pub I have treated it as my 'local' for approx 2 years now and I love it. The staff are friendly, I've never encountered any trouble and the regulars are all friendly and welcoming. There is a nice room upstairs that is reasonable to hire and a very good karaoke every other sunday. I would say that by the time you've visited this pub about 4 times you feel completely at home and like one of the regulars. I've never had a bad evening here and people from late teens to retired folk seem to like the place as much as I do.

Maybe it's me, then. Went in here yesterday, and it wasn't inspiring. there was me, the barmaid, and two regulars in here and I didn't feel encouraged to stay for more than two pints.

The first pint was cloudy, and the barmaid said 'maybe he hasn't cleaned the lines'. Not exactly inspiring.

I asked about using a debit card and was told that there's a minimum spend of 10. Didn't really want to set up a tab and drink that much, so I broke into the fiver in my wallet (which they were happy enough to take).

Good jukebox, but when the best thing about a pub is the jukebox, you know you probably won't be going back.

I'm surprised no one has reviewed this pub yet. A very busy and friendly backstreet boozer. I would definitley visit regularly if it was my local. If more Gillingham pubs were like this, not so many would be shutting down.
