A nice large pub with a good range of beers. Can be a little busy at times and loud but well worth a visit

Great pub with a mix of ages and mainly locals. Food and beer are very cheap and there are often disco's (St. George's night was unreal).

The Bar Staff are friendly and work hard to make sure you are served quickly. They also don't mind you having a few drinks and a laugh, which some pubs tend to worry about!!!! A couple of the girls who work in here are very tasty, which helps to get us back in time and time again.

We were also allowed to put our huge 'Hartlepool United- Kent Beer Boys' flag outside on the wall after we beat Gillingham 1-nil. Much respect to the manager for this.

A top pub that some of the Kent Beer Boys walk from Rainham to visit on a weekly basis. Just a shame we live too far to use this place more often.

Oh and they have a well stoked dukebox wirth the Rolf Harris Classic 2 Little Boys on it.

Up the Pools, KBB and 2LB.

Bland but acceptable John Barras pub. Nothing offensive - clean and decently run pub, aimed mainly at younger drinkers.

I frequent The Old Ash Tree every once in a while as it is probably the nearest half decent pub to where I live. It is part of the John Barras chain and as a result, lacks the individuality it may have once had, but I have always found the place to be pleasant enough. The regulars are seemingly friendly and the prices are reasonable. There is a decently stocked jukebox too, though the one quibble with this would be that volume is always a little low. To sum things up, its a decent enough local and okay enough to eat a cheap meal or have a drink or two, nothing more though. This pub is also currently listed on the Gillingham section on this site. Chatham however, is its correct location.

I'm sorry to say, but in the last few months this pub has become a little unfriendly. On my last visit there was a new face behind the bar, and he wasn't very welcoming. Also although the sign outside says that food is served all day, and John Barras themselves indicate the same this simply isn't the case anymore at this pub. Having visited on a Saturday for an early lunch at 11:15, which we had done on a number of before to avoid lunchtime smokers we were told that food is at 12:00. I have no problem with this as most people eat at this time, but there is no indication that the times had changed, and quite frankly the way we were told was a little rude.
