Great place to sit outside. Floral displays could win awards with the effort the staff have put in to make it so attractive. Youngs Special and Brakspears on the pumps. Youngs Special still in good form. Also had a great ploughmans platter. Great place to start or end a walk in the surrounding hills.

but then again gann it is aimed at a certain market, which we enjoy (all being over 50)and tick all the boxes for us...good food, very good ale and good service, and also agree about the billet.

I think the Mungo Jerry fan below has captured this pub rather well.
A fantastic 400 year old traditional country pub with a wonderful outside space for summer which rightly wins this place several plaudits from 'Britain in Bloom'. And then a great traditional oak beam interior for other times.
Four ales pumps but they are doubled up, so only Youngs Special and Brakspears Bitter available, but both are well kept.
And good solid traditional pub food, but at lunch time only.
However to concur, the clientele on the times I have visited at lunchtime has been, lets say politely, mature.
Im not ashamed to admit that I now have 10 more years than David Gowers first-class cricket average under my belt and I feel reassuringly young drinking here. So suffice to say if its excitement youre after, best look elsewhere, but if you are after a good pint of ale in a traditional old country pub, you can do a lot worse than a drive out to the Crooked Billet.

Had lunch the other day. Nice old country pub. It has a lovely front garden for those sunny days. Food was good traditional pub grub and served promptly. Beer range included Youngs Special and I think the other one was Brakspear Bitter. Inside, theres a nice old serving area and separate seating areas for dining. I'll be coming back again soon.

friendly country pub.....only been in there once and didn't eat so I can't rate the food but the beer was well kept and the landlord was friendly.

the pub was surprisingly empty!
