Beers OK. Did not try food. Bit cliquey. Certainly not dog friendly. Avoid. Pokerman - 12 Sep 2023 18:20 |
The pub now has its second tenants in place since the community buy out. The first tenants left a very sound business. No great changes have been made by the new tenants. Expect a warm welcome from Barney. There are now 5 real ales including Theakston & Black Sheep bitters. Also available were Marstons Pedigree, Wensleydale Bitter (probably the best beer from that brewery but all their beers are good) and Attermire (a session IPA) from Settle brewery. Well worth calling in after a walk in Coverdale or climb up Penhill. Rocky53 - 14 Mar 2016 09:41 |
This pub has now been bought through a community share issue and is owned by nearly 400 local people and others from further afield. It reopened on Christmas Eve after a refurbishment because the previous owners made a number of internal alterations and took out the kitchen. There is ongoing work to the restaurant, kitchen and the 3 letting bedrooms which the landlord anticipates will open in January/February. There are 4 real ales available with Black Sheep Bitter and John Smith Cask as well as 2 guest beers which will be sourced from local breweries including Wensleydale. Lovely old fire place in the bar and adjoining room also has an open fire. Rocky53 - 29 Dec 2011 12:21 |
Visited recently , virtually ignored by stroppy barmaid, most unhelpful. Won't return. mineisalandlord - 28 Feb 2011 20:15 |
Classic Dales pub with all the necessary comforts - log fires, great atmosphere, landlord who knows how to strike the right balance to retain locals and make visitors feel welcome, and superb meals. Full range of beer from the Wensleydale Brewery in excellent condition. Accomodation available. Might be matched, unlikely to be beaten. GrahamH - 6 Jun 2006 08:28 |
