After reading the reviews on here i was expecting better. The place was dirty with gobby locals at the bar and Foster was not on as well. The only good thing was that my pint of Otter ale was a good one. Torrington is a dump! 4/10 montie49 - 15 Jul 2012 14:57 |
I stayed here Oct 08 in one of their b&b rooms and am happy to recommend this pub to any other real ale drinker needing a room for the night anywhere near Torrington. I read elsewhere the rooms have been recently refurbished and mine was certainly fresh and clean with a big comfy bed, large bathroom and a shower that worked. The freshly cooked breakfast was enormous and, most importantly, the Sharps Doom Bar was very drinkable. Good stuff. Would certainly stay here again or just drop in for a pint. pint_at_bbc - 6 Oct 2008 16:25 |
A super friendly Pub ! I had a warm welcom from the new landlord and landlady , Justin and Sandie. The food was hearty, home cooked, and wholesome ( especially their renowned carvery....cheap,tasty, and there was loads of it !). The a la carte menu was simple....yet easy to choose from and seemed to have all my favourite dishes there ( so i was happy!) The Chef can also be seen flitting in and out of the kitchen , a mad bald Irishman named ken who isnt shy aboutchatting and sharing a joke and bit o blarney with the punters. I must say, it was nice to see a pub chef who has enough confidence in his creations to speak to diners personally. the waiting staff too were very polite and attentive. Back to the bar....a lovely warm westcountry atmosphere in a building with loads of history and atmosphere , friendly locals, and top notch real ale ( try the "OTTER ALE" its great ! spanky - 6 May 2006 09:25 |
