Visited last Sunday, taking in what I suspect most visitors do, both the Castle and the K & E S R. Hands up, I avoided the beer as I'm not a fan of the pale summer ales, so opted for a Thatcher's Gold, you can't go wrong with that! An excellent menu, with a wide variety, I tried the crab macaroni cheese, different but very nice! Even had the added bonus of Morris Dancers performing in the beer garden! It's okay - ale was drinkable though nothing special for the Hampstead prices they charge. Pretty much a pub for visitors to the nearby castle. anonymous - 18 Apr 2015 22:35 |
Called in here for for a drink en route from Bodiam Castle to the K&ESR station to catch the steam train back to Tenterden. As it was a nice sunny afternoon we sat outside in the garden. Four hand pulls; Spitfire, Master Brew, Whitstable Bay Pale and a cider. The Whitstable Bay was tip-top, but rather pricey at £3.90 a pint, but that seems to be the norm in this part of the country. I know there is a tax differential, but how it is it that I can buy 500ml bottles of all three of these Shepherd Neame brews for less than £1.50 at most of my local super markets. How can being charged an extra £2.40 for drinking the same brews in a pub be justified? steve2905 - 25 Aug 2014 07:51 |
They do a real cider here which was lovely, if rather too strong prior to visiting Bodiam Castle and climbing all those narrow spiral stairs! We sat in the garden in the sunshine and watched the distant steam train come and go on the preserved railway - idyllic. micbinks - 2 Jul 2013 18:15 |
Great garden here to sit and try and enjoy your Sheps beer, at the end of the garden a little stream , and further on a little Steam with the view of the Kent and East Sussex railway. Henners - 26 Aug 2011 16:01 |
