The Starre has the best 49er I have found anywhere, to be honest it has become quite legendary on the strength of it! It has recently grown in popularity on the quality of it's beer amongst the local students as well who seem to think they have 'discovered' the place!! LOL!! The food (carvery) on a Sunday is the best in the area and is really well patronised by the locals and holiday makers alike. If you can get the landlady to cook something Chinese then you are really in for a treat!! There are currently two live music nights a month - the second Tuesday of the month which is a well organised 'Folk and Roots' night, which seems to cover all forms of acoustic music from traditional folk and blues to contemporary singer/songwriter and the third Tuesday which is an open mic night. This is a great pub and a real 'find' if you are passing by. Triax - 28 Nov 2013 01:07 |
Visited this pub last wee late afternoon, only person in there. Barmaid was friendly but was polishing and cleaning windows. Sharps Doombar and Ringwood 49er were on offer. My mate had the Doombar and said it was good, however my 49er could have been better. I found the Pub very dark and in need of some TLC (a good tidy up behind the bar). Eating area looked ok. sited right on the main road into Christchurch so should be attracting more trade. Some work to be done, however i understand that the pub has only recently reopened after being closed for some time, so would return next time i am in Christchurch to give it a second chance Bitter_Man - 29 Oct 2013 09:05 |
I have only been to this pub at lunchtime but have to say that the food is delicious. It is good home cooking at its best and the Sunday Carvery fantastic value at 6.95. Meat very tender and plenty of it, great choice of vegetables. fifi49 - 26 Oct 2009 16:07 |
I don't use this pub at night time but I have been in several times for meals and I would most certainly return again. The food is gorgeous, well presented and in expensive. I particularly like the carvery for 6.95 on Sundays. The meat just melts and there are several choices of vegetables. And they make PROPER gravy! Helga22 - 26 Oct 2009 14:16 |
