Pretty tremendous - gorgeous dark wood interior and lots of nooks and crannies while it is set back from a lovely village green atop a hill. Nearish to the Ridgeway, it's a hard pub to have a pint at given the lack of public transport options nearby and, on this occasion, the ale selection was a little unimaginative and lacking in local options. Roast chicken and a halloumi salad went down well and the garden is also a quiet arbour.

First stop on a trip to the Chilterns yesterday was the Lions of Bledlow, supposedly so called as there were 2 pubs here both with Lion in the name. The interior is dark and beamed. There were 5 real ales - Reunion Opening Gambit, Great Heck Trafalgar, Tring Pale Four, Cotleigh Tawny Owl & Wadworth 6X. I was torn about what to order and the barman recommended the Opening Gambit. I took him up on the recommendation. But it wasn't really my type of ale. The table next to us had followed us in and their salads arrived promptly. A nice country pub seemingly popular with cyclists, possibly from the nearby Phoenix Trail.

Good range of local ales, decent food and not too expesive for the area, bar service friendly but a bit chaotic.

i do really love heading out to bledlow to spend an hour or two in the lions.not only is it a really beautifull building nestled at the end of the wonderfully picturesque village, but the beer is top rate aswell. at least 3 constanlty rotating beers, which usually include something local (thame, tring, chiltern, malt, xt, etc.)

the walking is fantastic from here aswell, so its a great place to head off and finnish up at for a sunday ramble

On previous visits there has been a good spread of 5 different ales but last night there was a lacklustre offering of 3 Wadworth beers, 6X, Ipanema and Swordfish and Upham Sprinter with the Doom Bar pumpclip turned round although nowadays it tastes like syrup anyway. Maybe that was why the pub was not very busy which it invariably has been in the past and why we are unlikely to be hurrying back. An overall disappointing experience which I hope is a one-off.
