Drove past yesterday and it was still closed. Huge waste of potential. anarchobeer - 4 Jul 2015 20:56 |
Pub has been closed for ages but looks like it has now been sold. Hope it reopens soon with better management as it looks like a nice place with a lot of potential. Any updates on this one? montie49 - 29 Oct 2013 18:37 |
I recently had dinner at the Foxhunters (in the restaurant, not the carvery) and we were sorely disappointed. Although the starters arrived relatively quickly, we then had a long wait (around 45 minutes) for the main courses and noticed another party, who had arrived well after we had ordered, were getting their food before us. When our mains did arrive, the steaks were very overdone, as was the salmon. One of us had the wrong type of potatoes, another had no peas, and the serving of fried mushrooms with the steak consisted of 2 which were both rather small and rather cold. We told the waiter about the steaks being done wrongly, and he did not understand so went to get another member of staff. She said she would speak to the chef but then we heard no more. I eventually spoke to the manager, who tried to dismiss the length of our wait, saying the other party must have had dishes that were quicker to cook than ours, and didn't seem to think it was a problem, though he later did apologise. He checked the written order which confirmed that the waitress had written it down correctly, so said 'harsh words will be spoken' with the chef. He gave us the steaks for free, and a half hearted apology for our disappointment. Despite the discount given we felt we had very much over paid for what we got, as the portions were small, seemed cheap (Captain Bird's Eye cod, we suspected!) and not cooked to the standard you might expect - even if I had asked for the steak well done, which is what I got, I wouldn't have been happy paying 13 for the quality I got. This is a pub we have driven past many times and thought how nice it looked, but needless to say we will continue to drive past in future as there are many cheaper and better quality places around the area. This place has so much potential but is grossly over priced. The bar and waiting staff were so miserable that we nearly walked out two minutes after walking in. We now wish we had. There are some reasonably priced places near by with much better value and customer service. This place in on the side of a fast main road. The room are very tidy and clean but again massively over priced. 100 a night per room. Could hear the traffic flying by all night so didnt sleep well and very hot rooms too. The food was poor, tough Argentinian steak the beer was so cloudy I sent back both pints she tried to pour and didnt go back for anything else. We ate at an excellent restaurant down the road in Knowle called Ebrington Arms which was fantastic! Stay away from this place, most peole do. It was shut by 10pm on Saturday night and we had hell from the landlord as we came home at 10. They were just sooooo miserable! GarmischP - 7 Jun 2010 10:02 |
