Great selection of ales in beautiful hilltop setting. Food generously portioned but mixed grill a bit on the overlooked side! Girlfriends chilli excellent though. Well worth a visit if in the area, especially on a hot spring day to enjoy the views. TommyRogers1979 - 5 May 2013 11:43 |
Visited this great looking pub at 7pm on a Sunday evening. I was looking forward to ordering a meal, and asked what time they served food until. The answer was a curt 'seven' - I appreciate that pubs have to stop serving at some point, but it was bang on seven o'clock, not a minute afterwards, and it was quite clear that the lady behind the bar had no thought of allowing me to order food - This was a shame, I had driven a fair way to get there, and there was clearly no discretion despite their being nothing else available in the local area. Accordingly we left without buying food or a drink, but is shouldn't have had to be like this surely ? SouthYorkshireman - 4 Jul 2011 20:27 |
This is the only pub in the picturesque village of High Bradfield, although there are others nearby which I intend to add once pubs are being added again. It features in CAMRA's 'Peak District Pub Walks' and rightly so. It is a rare Thwaites outlet in the area, and serves a range of their beers, including the excellent Wainwright, Bomber and Original. On Sunday we popped in during a walk and had a magnificent carvery. The service was friendly and the atmosphere very pleasant, but what stood out for me was the view over the Grade 1 listed parish church and the valley below from the back windows. Can't fault a thing from my visit. Carlurmston - 4 Feb 2009 12:58 |
Haven't been in some time, but when I did, the beer was good and the service was very friendly. SheffieldMickey - 3 Mar 2008 00:09 |
