My understanding is that The Star will be doing a very soft opening on the 1st August from 3PM .Their kitchens are not yet ready but there will be a BBQ and Green King will be promoting their cask beers wines and spirits .So good news and hopefully they will get lots of support . The only thing is that they have now put a fence along the B4027 road (due to items being stolen by passing people) and hence it is not so easy to see from the B road .But it is located at Middle Road .Post code OX33 1EX .tel phone number 01865 358027.to check for opening times angelfish - 23 Jul 2015 16:37 |
Delighted to see details of an application for a premises licence and refurbishment work being carried out. Although the Talkhouse is almost next door in a small village the Star was always more down-to-earth, friendlier and less expensive. Hopefully once re-opened it will continue along similar lines. It was previously a Wadworth house but I don't know if that remains the case. yellowfever - 18 Jun 2015 19:22 |
The Star has been closed for six months now as the landlords (New College) wait for the lease to expire. It's said in the village that they are hoping to be able to sell the place off and redevelop it as housing which would be a shame given that The Star has been a pub for over 400 years. The former landlord Michael had a good regime, cheap, well prepared pub grub, and it had the support of the village, so a second pub in Stanton St John can work. Everyone goes to the Abingdon Arms in Beckley now instead. lowrider - 9 Dec 2014 10:59 |
nice pub in a quaint village on the outskirts of oxford in stanton st. john. The main room gets a bit smokey when the fire is lit. The food is good - huge portions!! johnnymaher - 22 Feb 2007 17:07 |
