Good typical old fashioned drinking pub. If a little limited on real ales. stevefarmer - 22 Oct 2007 13:03 |
This lovely little country pub located on the edge of the village surrounded by open farmland has recently come under new, day to day management. The Fox is now operated by a lovely west midlands man, well known to the UK Carp and Coarse Fishing/Angling fraternity as Fletch. This is a very traditional, very wet pub, with perhaps just a Ham and Tomato, or Cheddar Cheese & Onion Bap, by way of a menu (although Fletch often knocks up some FREE Chips and FREE Sandwiches on a Darts Team Evening). As it happens most nights will see a darts team player or two enjoying a game in the public bar area, whilst in the more comfortable lounge bar, you can sit back and wait for you Chinese or Indian Takeaway Meal to be delivered, which unusually, you are welcome to eat on the premises on china plates provided free of charge by Fletch. (It is considered only polite to offer to buy Fletch a drink as well as one for each of your own crowd, in exchange for the free use of his telephone to order your meal, the plates and eating irons and for him doing the washing up once you have left the premises). A great idea AND very unusual in this day and age!! This is a solid, old fashioned country pub, with a good and safe kiddies garden. The Fox seems to be located in the middle of nowhere, but is actually only 8 miles from Oxford and very near ( 1 mile) to some of the best Carp and Roach fishing lakes anywhere in the UK, the famous Lynch Hill Leisure Park. By the way, Fletch, knows all the best fishing swims, all the best fishing baits, has all the latest local fishing knowledge and until he took over the management of The Fox at Stanton Harcourt in June 2007 was the Manager of Lynch Hill Leisure Park (Fisheries) for the previous three, or four years. To summerise the Fox at Stanton Harcourt is a great place to talk about fishing, play darts, eat cheese rolls, belch, fart, and get befuddled on good beers. No Frills. No Nonsense. Good Company. A great location to start or perhaps to finish a local pub crawl. Have Fun!! Frankie Lee-Darling anonymous - 30 May 2007 19:32 |
