Very pleasant little pub which is possibly the Wychwood Brewery tap. The range of beer is from Marstons(who now own Wychwood) with a house brew available at a very reasonable price. Other real ales on sale when we went were Brakspear's Gold; Pedigree and Mansfield Bitter. Good portions of pub grub were being dished up but we didn't eat here. There are a couple of TV's for sports (sound off ) a pool table at the back of the pub and a couple of seats outside at the front. A good mix of llocal trade and tourists. The only worry is that it was rumoured that Wetherspoons were bidding for a siite nearby and this may eventually affect their trade although The Angel would still appeal to those people who want a nice little town pub with personal service and good beer and a enjoyable atmosphere. Give a try. mcroyal - 6 Oct 2011 12:11 |
The best pub in Witney , the landlord is a jolly chap with a very dry sense of humour I disagree about it being a mans pub, as lots of ladies lunch or coffee there. Some of the best guest ales are served here, along with there "Angel Ale" one of the cheapest in Witney. passeroses - 3 Sep 2010 10:25 |
Ain't too bad - an honest everyday working man's boozer with the footy results etc. Had a decent enough pint of Brakspear Gold here.. at the top end of town and would drop by again when up here. anonymous - 1 May 2010 23:47 |
One of Witney's better pubs, a welcoming boozer that avoids being either an upmarket wine-bar pub or a decaying, down-at-heel joint on it's way out (Witney is dominated by these two kinds of places). Decent beer - John Smiths on handpump (very rare in these parts), something from the Wychwood stable, and a guest. Definitely worth a visit. thomashenry - 22 Dec 2008 13:28 |
Proper pub. My wife comes from north lancashire and this place reminds me of the kind of pubs you still get up there. Solidly old-fashioned without being twee and oldey-worldey. Much better since the smoking ban, as it used to get a bit much in there. Tilleymeister - 1 Sep 2008 14:12 |
