Initial disappointment to find only two real ales on offer alleviated to find that the choice was Brakspear Oxford Gold and Wychwood Hobgoblin - we sampled both and all agreed that the beers were well kept and moreish. Mein host was very welcoming and jovial (perhaps we caught him on a good day). 3.10 - 3.30 per pint was something of a shock for Black Country folk used to paying 1.80 - 2.40 but this was offset by the fact that having paid 6.25 for lunch we were all gobsmacked by the size of the portions and the chipshop quality chips (a refreshing change from the plasticy oven chips that are normally served in pubs - one of few niggles with J D Wetherspoons). We spent five hours in Banbury, visiting four pubs, and all agreed that the meal was the highlight of our visit. Screecher - 1 Jul 2011 06:01 |

Went in here for the first time last weekend, reasonable ales, but the pub had an atmosphere of a fight about to happen. Didn't hang around to see if i was right ! wellinformed - 3 Jul 2008 20:17 |
Good Pub with excellent management and friendly regulars. Varied selections of both ales and lagers most of the time. One of the largest beer gardens in Banbury which is a God send in the summer. A comprehensive and well priced food menu is also available during the day. Beer prices though are on the high side of average and can occasionally get raucous very late in the evenings. ol2007 - 8 Aug 2007 12:49 |
