Visited this place on a weekday afternoon May 2017. J D Wetherspoon have taken this over. Need to do a lot better. The staff need to take more interest in serving customers and also clearing tables of clutter. Ordered fish and chips for two with glasses of white wine. Not the best by any means. Will not be back. Now a Wetherspoons, which on this occasion is a pleasant change! Previously it was a pub that was dark, dingy, uncomfortable and a bit rough. Now it is bright, clean and comfortable. We ordered a traditional breakfast and were happy with the food. The staff were friendly polite and efficient. We were brought our meal in timely fashion and it represented great value for money. Usual lineup of beers from Ruddles, Adnams etc but OK. There is a small issue with parking, there were only a few spaces. However we can recommend a visit localhero72 - 11 Apr 2015 04:33 |
"Crowborough is the chav capital of Sussex"?? So sad. I can only assume "anonymous" is from the well-heeled doghole of *uckfield. Jealousy's a curse you know... The Cross USED to be the best place in Crowborough to go - admittedly not what you'd call a difficult benchmark but still valid all the same. The split-levels meant different groups tended to congregate in the different areas, and all was well with the world. The magnificent Len (R.I.P.) and Rose ran the place with aplomb. Which isn't a plumbing tool, anonymous. Then I'm afraid something happened (as with most who grew up in Crowborough, I left for the bright lights and big city), and now the place is a hellhole with bouncers on the door, a stupidly loud "disco", godawful drink and no front door. The place has sold out and lost any soul it ever once had, though it still has many fond memories for me. StuFromSaturday - 21 Feb 2008 12:40 |
Harvey's Best is one of the great beers, but you'd never know it in here. I tried it in the daytime, knowing better than to risk this place out of school hours. I won't be going back. nelly0164 - 1 Sep 2007 15:36 |
Not a nice pub. The music is too loud. If you order a cider, it looks like they just made it in the toilet. The taste might be like that too, can't be far off. plo - 11 Oct 2006 21:22 |
