Hugely overrated. Food is very expensive and I'm not convinced about the quality - my burger was over 12 and it was overcooked, nowhere near to the standard at the Blue Anchor in Crowborough which is a lot better quality and value. It seems as though it's very much a place to go to be seen in or to tell others that you've been there - image over substance I suppose. My biggest gripe is that the owners needs to make up their minds as to whether it is a pub or a restaurant - if its a pub then ensure you reduce the price of the beer (4+ per pint) and food, and make it welcoming for children (I got the distinct impression that kids were not welcome by both the staff AND other customers). If it's a restaurant then improve the quality of the food and say that it's an over 21's only establishment - that will please all of those people who don't want kids around when they go out to eat (short memories - we were all kids once and most of them are actually quite well behaved) naugy - 27 Sep 2011 10:44 |
Had a fantastic meal again at the Mark Cross, the food is consistently good, the pub has a great atmosphere and now table service. 10 out of 10 thechum - 18 Oct 2010 21:08 |
second visit. very over priced for the mediocre food. Dont know what the awards are for but its not the food. they must make vast improvements if they are going to compete with the Middle hhouse or the Blackboys inn. my last visit. amen86 - 7 Feb 2010 18:42 |
Visited yesterday evening and enjoyed a very nice meal (featuring proper hand cut chunky chips and a proper enormous hand made steak burger) and a few very pleasant pints of ale from the Westerham brewery - crystal clear and well kept. Definitely a "foodie" pub but a good one IMHO TrevorT - 25 Nov 2007 22:28 |
went in on a Sunday recently with wife and outlaw for lunch, food was OK, beer was OK, but prices not too clever - outlaws battered cod/home made chips/mushy peas was actually rather a small portion, not that she could have eaten any more anyway but that's not the point - it was 11.50 which is somewhat of a piss take. Otherwise style similar to other Chaser pubs but we won't be going back if I can help it. nelly0164 - 17 Jan 2007 12:58 |
