A fairly basic but nice enough pub, and showing a rugby match of such high quality I stayed for a couple of Pints of Pedigree (2.80). Efficient staff, friendly customers, cheap beer & good rugby; a nice way to end a wet Saturday. Queenslander - 30 Aug 2015 22:29 |
Called in here as I had some time to kill before catching my train - this pub is very handy for Birmingham New Street station. On entering I got the feeling this was a bit of a locals' pub but thought I would stick it out. Two hand pumps at the bar, one was off the other appeared to be sporting Greene King IPA priced at £2.45 per pint. A little disappointed that nothing more adventurous than this was available, again I stuck with it and ordered, only to be told the IPA was not available, and the closest they had to real ale was John Smiths or Guinness. I very nearly left at this point but settled on the Guinness, which was £3.45 for the pint. Pleasant enough pint of Guinness, but it wasn't what I went in the pub for. Disappointing considering the signs boasting "local cask ales" - perhaps I caught the place on a bad day. Will not be hurrying back though. RealAleRobUK - 12 Jun 2015 15:32 |
Stock control seems to be an issue here. ALWAYS running out of beer or something on the menu. Blame is normally attached to the casino next door! When they have food and drink it is generally very good. Needs to get its act together. annhalf - 12 May 2015 20:40 |
Quite happy to call here after walking up Hill Street on a warm afternoon. Punters seemed quite normal. Beer range limited. Staff quite cheerful, preferred the ambience of the place to that of the nearby Brew Dog. TiaMariaJim - 17 Apr 2015 12:33 |
Yes this place is now called The Railway and it's NOT a spit and sawdust boozer. In fact it's quite smart and comfy inside. Only two hand pulls for Greene King IPA @ £2.25 a pint. The other ale was something from the Black Sheep Brewery. bjbrummiejohn - 1 Jul 2014 07:54 |
