very typical smith and Jones pub and i dont mean that in a negative way, very relaxing pub with a good mixture of places to sit, quick friendly service and five handpumps of cheap ales including Greene Morland Original @ 1.69 a pint! 7/10 fat_beer_badger - 12 Apr 2012 12:15 |
Really nice place to eat and drink - I would highly recommend anonymous - 1 Sep 2007 09:25 |
Have to agree that Beer can be a bit cold, and where do they buy all that extra gas from? Food is good value but similar to all the big groups. AleBoy - 17 Oct 2006 19:11 |
Went there this Christmas for a Christmas party. AWESOME!Was served by a gorgeous girl... may have been called Mary and the other waitresses were great too. Food excellent and atmosphere great. Female manager kept checking with all of us that everything was good and staff were cool. Had 4 beers on, not an ale drinker myself (prefer Corona) but boss started on IPA but finished worse for wear, on Old Speckled Hen. Loved it.. would definately recommend...be there again on Saturday! I have tried to assess this pub fairly over several visits in the last year, but each time I have been disappointed. The real ale selection is generally limited (usually Green King Abbott, occasionally other things too), served far too cold, and invariably badly served (although they always top up the pint when asked, they usually end up getting less in than when they started). Admittedly, I am a real ale fan, so I am biased, but a friend was also diappointed the other day - 2 small glasses of house wine for nearly 11, OK for a trendy London bar, but for Melton? Its a modern venue that Melton deperately needs, but performing below expectations so far. melton69 - 9 Nov 2005 12:33 |
