Brilliant pub for a visit with kids - the play areas are really good, with food of good value for all the family.
Service was friendly, the beer just right. Not exactly 'Gordon Ramsay' but for the price, a very good deal.

Will be bringing the kids here again, as it is so easy to enjoy a decent pint while they tire themselves in the garden before dinner! The wine list is good too!

I had an identical experience to my esteemed colleague in booze, Jonnysaint.

That's not to say it's always this way, on a previous visit the inhabitants were charming.

Dropped into the Horse and Groom a couple of Saturdays ago. Unfortunately, for us, there was a football match on the TV so the place was packed. We attempted to make our way to the bar, but were poked and prodded by the local neanderthals with pool cues. "Oi, mate. You're in theway".
Apparently we were blocking their view of the TV. Here I was thinking a public house was a place to be social, not sit around watching TV. Anyway, unable to see the ale on offer because of the rude clientele hogging the bar we thought 'stuff this' and left. We headed to the far superior Kingston Arms down the road. At least your get treated with respect there.

All I can say is book a table. Turned up on a Sunday lunch at about 12.45 only to find 2/3 rds of the tables with reserved signs on them. A couple reserved for 1.30, yep that's two tables out of action for 90 mins on a busy sunday lunch. 7 of us left without even a drink and went to The Chequers.

Visited this pub after recommendation, went with family and friends for lunch, had a great carvery and superb bar meals and the specials board was fab. Kids spent all lunch outside playing crazy golf and knackering themselves on the giant bouncy castle. This was great as we managed to down a few!! Staff, pub really nice, will certainly go back soon.
