As the previous comment was over 5 years old, we decided to give the pub a go and popped along for lunch one Saturday.
At half past 12 we were the first car on the car park and the first customers in the pub. We were made very welcome and took a table near the large fire where there is a photo of the fire which I have been told shows three ghosts. Hmm. The real ales on offer were fairly standard (two Theakston beers and Caledonian Deuchars). We both had a starter and a main and enjoyed our meal. Nothing too fancy and good value. The locally sourced gammon was lovely.
After our meal we read the display in the pub about the local 17th century witch, Meg Sheldon, then we visited her grave in the graveyard opposite the pub.

Sunday Afternoon 261008
On a cold rainy Sunday afternoon we ventured in for a warm welcome and a hearty Sunday Lunch. We got neither. A large gent behind the bar decided to stop reading the paper and serve us two drinks with no welcome. I asked if they were doing Sunday lunch as there appeared to be no customers in the pub. Yes but you will have to go into the dining area where they will look after you. We went into the empty dining area to find no-one was there to greet or meet us. An extremely large lady appeared out of the kitchen munching on food and carrying sandwiches to the bar for the barman. I asked was she in charge of the kitchen to which she grunted ' er what' so I asked were they doing lunches 'er yes' was the answer. I asked to see a menu, having at this point decided that we would not be staying longer than the time it took to drink up. Where are the menus she asked the large chap behind the bar dunno he said. Then she found 1 and then a waitress appeared with another. I didn't even bother to read it but left - never to return. No wonder pubs are closing and I'd bet this one will be gone before we ever try it again.

Not a bad drinking pub in the fantastic village of Woodplumpton. Food's expensive and not much good really. Pool table upstairs is free with a fiver deposit for the balls, and it's like having your own private club up there, which is nice. Always got one guest and 3 resident ales on - currently Ruddles, Theakston and Bombardier. Average prices for drinks. Good atmosphere and generally friendly locals.
