Lovely location but what a disappointment this was. Visited there today in glorious sunshine. Looking forward to lunch and some real ale. Three pumps, two turned round and only, Doom Bar on, which is fine. However when I went to order it I was told it wasn't ready yet and they couldn't guarantee when it would be ready! Had to wait ages for food and then they stopped taking food orders because of the demand, I cancelled my food order after waiting 20 minutes for it I was told I would have to wait at least another 20 minutes, I only ordered a sandwich!! What a shame, never again. Fulhampete - 23 Mar 2012 20:39 |
An undeniably pleasant location but the Summer price hike - paid 7.40 for 2 pints of Wadworth 6X - is disgraceful.Have to go back in the Autumn/Winter and if their prices have been lowered, the management will be having to answer some questions ! keithc - 31 Aug 2011 16:55 |
An undeniably wondrous location that I took in on a long walk from Windsor to Marlow, a route peppered with mansions, Egyptian ducks and serenity. The pleasant wooden terrace overlooks the river and the food is generally of a decent quality. The only problem is that I have been to the same pub about 5 times now - in Warwick, Golders Green, Wolvercote and elsewhere- because this is what I call a "chain by stealth" - no explicit labelling like a Wetherspoon's or a Hogshead (remember them? No? You didn't miss much). It's a welcoming enough place but the light pine and light jazz feel deployed indoors grates and the continuing construction of an identikit United Kingdom is epitomised therein. A lovely pub, with a beautiful outside patio area, overlooking the river, very pleasant on a sunny afternoon! delicious menu with lots of choice, but some meals, including salads are a bit over-priced for what you get - 12 for a goats cheese salad with just sugar snap peas and radish ! nlithgow - 16 Jul 2011 21:12 |
No issues with this place, but only used it work lunchtimes ... The decking down to the river, lovely, watching the ducks on sunny afternoons. Even lunchtime food was silly overpriced, but it was OK for a lunch menu ... some Belgian beers too ... There are more trad pubs in Cookham which do real ale, this is not one of them, you pay for the stylish renovation, "sophistication ?" and river aspect. I'd have thought if you were doing dinner in Cookham this would be the last place you would choose, though it might just be amongst the cheapest ! Likewise if you were looking for a few beers in the evening ... not the place ... "horses for courses ?". - Laura lauraeva - 13 Aug 2010 00:57 |
