Went in there to see the Liverpool - Southampton opening game of the season with a friend. Since I was driving later I only had a single pint. At the bar I received a quick service as we got there early so the bar staff weren't serving anyone at the time.

There were plenty of screens and plenty of spaces to sit even just before kick-off however the design of the place meant that some of the televisions were poorly placed. For instance, one screen was right behind a large lamp cover so you could only see half the screen!

At half time I ordered Chilli Con Carne which was one of the cheapest meals (if you ignored the special offers) going at £5.95. My friend ordered Nacho's at a slightly greater cost. Both meals were very nice but my one was a lot smaller so I don't think I will be ordering that again. I didn't get a chance to see what other customers were eating from where we were sitting but it smelled quite nice.

Once we had finished with our glasses and plates, the staff were quick to spot this and removed them briskly and politely. I did feel sorry for the staff (there appeared to be only two young women working the place) and you could see the stress building as the punters rolled in to watch the game. However a polite and friendly service was still guaranteed.

Overall I would go back to Jacobs post to see a match or even for a some lunch with some mates but I would avoid the Chilli and I would not go during the evenings on a Friday/Saturday night as it seems to go through a complete transformation unlike any of the other pubs in town (a lot more rowdy for instance).

Visited Jacobs Post on 30th December 2011 to watch Man Utd Vs Blackburn, have a couple of pints and a bite to eat. The place was busy but not crammed. When I got to the bar there was only one bar maid serving around 15 people. Bless her but she really did not have much of a clue and seemed to be nursing a hangover!!
I ordered lunch which took almost one hour to arrive, was over cooked and badly presented. A very poor experience overall and will go elsewhere in the future.

we've spent the last two England games in here, hungover, was fantastic as we got great seats with a table in front of one of the plasmas on both occasions, had lunch on both occasions and really enjoyed, great atomosphere and friendly customers and helpfull staff, will most definately be going back.

A good place to go for lunch if you are over 30. too young a crowd in the evenings but thats fair enough .Their meal deals are very good value. They did a veggy menu specials board for a limited time. Should have kept it as a permanent offer as I, along with my family, are all vegetarian!. They serve Harveys which is real beer unlike all the other mass produced stuff they call beer.Their offer of 4.95 for a bottle of wine is great. A very reasonable price instead of silly money most pubs charge. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. A good place to go for a quiet lunch at a very reasonable price.
