What an excellent pub. Really old inside and not ruined by carpets. Stone floors were so nice to see. Proper village place. Small main bar with fire place and a second bar area more for sitting and eating. A newer restaurant room was also pleasant. Outside sitting area in front was blocked by the cars parked in front from the road, and the traffic was light when I was there on a Saturday lunch time so fine to sit there. The beer was a bit of a disappointment with the standard Green King IPA and Doom Bar and Southwold. But I had the Southwold and must say it was the best I have ever tasted. They do look after the ale well. Lovely friendly bar girl. Must go back. WeazelTimes - 26 Jul 2015 11:24 |
Nice, little pub in this Hertfordshire village. We paid it a visit after a trip to the nearby Paradise Wildlife Park. The main bar is traditional and there is a separate dining area. At the rear, there is a patio and a large beer garden with play equipment for children. 3 ales were on - Greene King IPA, Adnams Bitter & Prescott Hill Climb. Aspalls was the only cider of note. Could have done with more than 1 member of bar staff. blue_scrumpy - 8 Jun 2014 20:19 |

have not been to this boozer for about four years now. But was in the area and popped in with the Mrs for a bite to eat and a drink last month,. Really wished we had not bothered, the prices were well over the top for beer and the food looked like it had come out of a packet, and tasted like it had been heated up in an old microwave. Some of the staff were friendly but the old landlord was far from that, he was really lacking in customer service and spent most of the time moaning at his staff. this place has really gone down hill. I would not recommend it. jake1978 - 23 Dec 2010 16:39 |
This was a huge disappointment. Friendly staff - we had to pay for our meal before we received it. Big mistake as the wait for our meal was outrageous. We were told 20 minutes - it ran to 50 minutes. If we hadn't already paid for it we would have left. It was not a busy evening most were only drinking. Drinks were expensive. Room for our meal lacked atmosphere and was not warm. We certainly did not return on another evening of our stay in the area forfarman - 2 Nov 2010 20:17 |
