A lovely village is enhanced by this excellent stop off point with the welcoming staff a real bonus. We treated ourselves to two platters - seafood and antipasti - and both were superb - although don't order the former unless you like rollmops! The whitebait was of top order and the atmsophere convivial in the extreme. BoehmBawerk - 19 Oct 2011 13:42 |
Excellent pub, especially half way through an eight and a half mile walk. Beer (Oxford Gold) very good, food fine. Two very nice young ladies working behind the bar! The gents has a slow closing door so beware - you may start emptying out before it's actually closed, leading to possible embarrassment. ramblethenlunch - 15 Aug 2010 17:36 |
I just came across this site and I have to say I agree with Ridgeway Rambler, this is a proper gaffer running the place. Nice garden and a covered area if you fancy a smoke. Food a bit too pricey, catering to the Harwell crowd a bit too much? Oversteer - 24 Aug 2009 09:50 |
A proper pub with a proper gaffer behind the bar with other affable staff, taking an interest and caring about customers. Good food in generous quantities, Brakespear beers and relaxed locals enjoying a pub like they all ought to be. This publican should give masterclasses. Ridgeway.Rambler - 11 May 2009 09:35 |
Very much out of the way though was easy to find with a "brown sign" pointing off the main road. Beer was good and the food fine; open all day Sunday and cooking lunch until 16:00 which is great if you are running late like we were. Felt like a real English pub with inglenook fireplace, traditional furniture and nice beer garden out the back AJM - 10 Aug 2008 20:06 |
