I tend to concur with fat_beer_badger in that this pub always appears remarkably quiet. We often drive by and the car park is invariably empty. On a recent Friday night visit there were a dozen or so punters in there, but its a fair sized pub and that nowhere near filled it. The pub itself has a saloon bar feel to it. Difficult to explain, but you have expect a cowboy to wander in through the door at any moment. Pleasant enough place though, with a table skittles game, a couple of raised seating areas and some very 70s wallpaper. Staff were friendly enough, and they had picked eggs behind the bar which always seems to me to the mark of a proper pub. Although there were three pumps on the bar only one was in use serving Butcombe, although there was also a font with Whitbread Best, whatever that is. Ciders were Thatchers Gold, Blackthorn, and (unusually on draft) Natch. Blackthorn - 7 May 2010 22:44 |
decent enough pint of butcombe, but when i entered on a sunday evening i increased the pub clientele by 100% and when i left an hour later no one else had ventured in, so bit of a morgue atmosphere !! 6.5/10 purely for the beer quality and the friendly service! fat_beer_badger - 26 Mar 2008 22:03 |
