The Shortlands Tavern was one of those pubs that I walked into and instantly liked. The interior is cosy and traditional. Bar staff were friendly and customers looked like an amiable bunch too. The ale range was a little disappointing - St Austell Tribute, Sharp's Doom Bar, Young's Bitter, Courage Best, Timothy Taylor Landlord & Woodforde's Bure Gold. But, my attention was drawn to the cider at one end of the bar - Lilley's Chocolate Apple Cider. Nobody knew the price. But £2.50 seems the going rate for a half in this part of town and sure enough, the staff decided between them that it should be £2.50. Whilst there are better pubs up the hill in Bromley itself, don't rule this one out if you are ever passing through Shortlands. blue_scrumpy - 14 May 2019 20:43 |
Interesting pub. Location isn't the best, but put that aside and its a great place. I was there all afternoon - quiet at first but built up with a range of clientele to match the beers, lagers and pale ales on offer. Staff that were happy to chat if you wanted, but left you alone if you didn't. Not been there of an evening, but loads of tables apparently reserved for the evening quiz - think I'll be back to see how it is later on. Dialitup - 25 May 2016 20:39 |
As per previous comment, a real community pub that has thankfully not had its soul ripped out by a chain trying to buy them out yet! Really nice atmosphere and when myself and the OH went there, we enjoyed the drinks and friendly approach from the staff. A genuine little boozer that I will continue to frequent easyskip - 19 Aug 2015 09:44 |
Pub number 3 of the day of my short ticking trip in Beckenham and Bromley and it's another pub I visited for several years. It was mid 2010 when I last came here and to be honest the pub was on it's backside, what a transformation to how it looks today. A real community pub in an area that's always been a small part of Bromley rather than a place of its own. 6 hand pumps that had 5 ales on, the choices were Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, Westerham British Bulldog, St Austell Tribute, Clarkshaw's Hellhound IPA and my choice which was Brentwood Brewery Hope and Glory @ 4.5%...a cracking red bitter. The decor is pleasant in a restored way, the food looked and smelt lovely and clientele were friendly with a mix of ages. An upstairs room for dining is also available. I cannot quite believe its the same pub I used to visit as a teenager and the one I visited a few years back. 5 stops on the train from my house so its one I'll be back to soon. lezford - 10 Apr 2015 13:34 |
